Email sent to all branch members 18/06/26
Dear Comrades,
We would like to share with you the results of the consultative ballot regarding the 2026/27 2% pay offer, as well as a few other bits and bobs coming up.
πΈ 2026/27 pay offer consultation results
We recently recommended that you vote to reject the Higher Education 2026/27 pay offer consultation β see our May 2026 Newsletter for more information.
The overall result of those who voted was 14% accept and 86% reject on a turnout of 25%.
Our branch result was 5% accept, 95% reject on a turnout of 48% – a much more impressive turnout! Well done for being so engaged and active.
The HESGE (Higher Education Service Group Executive) are still awaiting updates on the positions of other unions on the offer, and will meet on the 1st July to discuss the results and consider next steps.
It is likely that the next step will be an official ballot, which paves the way for possible industrial action. We’ll keep you updated!
π¬ UoB falls in the QS rankings
Itβs been revealed that UoB has fallen from 54th to 57th in the QS World University Rankings 2027.
The senior team has resoundingly failed to get us into the top 50, and has seen an overall decline in the standing of our institution.
Before they have a chance to pin this on us, and use it to justify restructures and other changes detrimental to staff across the university, we want to point out that itβs impossible to deliver world class work when staff are overworked, under resourced and under attack.
