Feb & Mar Strike Pay FAQs

Following our second round of strike action in March, you now need to take the following actions to claim your strike pay (£50/day from regional Unison):

1️⃣ INFORM HR YOU WERE ON STRIKE

Email industrial-action-response@bristol.ac.uk and CC your line manager confirming that you took part in industrial action and the days you were on strike. You also need to inform them whether you wish to maintain your pension contribution for the days you were on strike (we recommend that you do).

Example template:

Subject: Notification of industrial action

Body:

Hello,

I was on strike on 10/03 and 11/03.

I would like to maintain my pension contributions for these days.

Many thanks,

2️⃣ Claim your March strike pay

➡️ Fill in this form to claim your strike pay

You can also request additional funds from our branch here if you’re struggling 💖

3️⃣ Provide evidence of your pay deductions for February strike dates

For members who were on strike last month on 10th, 11th, and 12th February, you have a new action to complete:

Unfortunately, after a long delay, we have now been informed by the regional Unison office that we are unable to receive any strike funds until we can provide evidence of the pay deductions from payslips. This is for audit purposes.

This means we must now ask you to upload your March payslip (which includes pay deducted for striking) before we can process your February strike payment.

Once we receive evidence we can request the strike pay from UNISON national and make payments to members, prioritising those most in need.

➡️ Upload your payslip here
(https://forms.office.com/e/UgN2mg36bh

➡️ Instructions on how to access and download your payslip

You can either upload the PDF directly or a screenshot – see example below.

Your payslip will only be accessible to the branch secretaries, the branch chair, and the branch treasurer. You can blur out everything on your payslip as long as the following are visible: Employee Name, Pay Date, and the line in the Payments table showing the amount deducted due to strike.

For the March strike dates, pay will be deducted in April, and you will need to upload your April payslip via a new form.

➡️ WHAT IF THERE’S A PROBLEM WITH MY PAYSLIP?

To work out how much pay you should have lost, The strike line under payments should be your pre-tax yearly salary divided by 365, times the number of days you were on strike.

The pay you actually lose will be less than this figure, as this is before tax. To work out how much you have lost, look at the difference between you regular ‘Net Pay’ in the bottom right corner and your ‘Net Pay’ for March.

Members have reported incorrect deductions, and even additions to pay (🫠) – if you have any concerns, contact payroll-uob@bristol.ac.uk.

For those who need a bit of extra support with loss of pay, we are running a food bank box for members outside the UNISON office (1D Priory Road) – please take anything you need or leave donations if you can:
