Updates from our environmental officer

Hi comrades! Well it certainly has been a busy start to the year in our branch!

I wanted to share with you all some exciting events and dates for your calendars coming up in the next few months to help you get involved in green-focused events in our Year of Green Activity.

Spring has (almost completely?!) sprung and Bristol City Council is running its annual Great Bristol Spring Clean initiative. Visit the website for dates of upcoming litter picks, to request your own litter picking kit, or to get involved with regular littler picking groups around the city. The Great Bristol Spring Clean 2026 – Bristol Waste Company

It’s World Earth Day on 22nd April 2026,  and there are loads of great events happening around that date. You will also find inspirational stories and tips on how to make your everyday life a greener one on the website: Earth Day 2026 | Theme, Activities, Events & Resources

And finally (for now) it’s The Great Big Green Week 6th – 14th of June, again they have lots of good resources and suggestions on how to get involved in this nationwide initiative The Great Big Green Week. I am hoping to run a little event for all our members that week, so any suggestions or volunteers to get involved would be very welcome, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Sometimes being greener can seem daunting and like your personal actions are not having any impact, but these collective movements show that together we can make a difference. Just like being in a union!

In solidarity,

Lucie (Your Environmental Officer)
