Unison UoB notes that:
- The ongoing need for trade union solidarity with the Palestinian people and with campaigns for justice, human rights, and ethical investment.
- The important campaigning work carried out locally by Bristol Palestine Solidarity Campaign, including public education, mobilisation, trade union outreach, and campaigning for ethical divestment.
- That Unison is already affiliated nationally to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, and PSC encourages local and regional branches to affiliate as well.
- Every year, Palestinians and the solidarity movement commemorate the 1948 Nakba, where over 750,000 Palestinian were ethnically cleansed and displaced from their homeland.
- As the Nakba continues, the Palestine solidarity movement is calling a Bristol Nakba78 March (Sat 09 May) alongside the national London Nakba demo (Sat 16 May).
- In the midst of this continued genocide, PSC Director Ben Jamal, and StW Vice-Chair Chris Nineham have been prosecuted for organising a peaceful demonstration.
- The government is set to pass further legislation to give police unprecedented new powers to ban protests they deem to cause ‘cumulative disruption’
- The police have rejected the Palestine Solidarity movement’s preferred route for the London Nakba demonstration (submitted in Dec 2025), instead giving permission for Tommy Robinson and the far right to host a counter demonstration in the area.
Unison UoB believes that:
- Trade union solidarity should be expressed not only in words, but also through practical local support.
- Affiliation to Bristol PSC would strengthen local links between the union movement and the Palestine solidarity movement in Bristol.
- A financial contribution would help Bristol PSC continue its campaigning and organising work.
- The escalating attacks on the Palestine solidarity movement, campaigners and on the right to protest are a threat to our civil liberties
- The trade union movement must increase the pressure on government to end its support for Israel and its attacks on the Palestine solidarity movement in Britain
Unison UoB resolves to:
- To affiliate to Bristol Palestine Solidarity Campaign for the current year.
- To donate £100 from branch funds to Bristol PSC in support of its local campaigning and organising work.
- To invite a representative from Bristol PSC to speak at a future branch meeting, if appropriate.
- To explore opportunities for future joint campaigning, events, and solidarity work.
- To attend the Bristol Nakba 78 demo on Sat 9th May (12 noon, Castle Park), and to promote with our members and facilitate them to stand with Palestine.
- To attend the national Nakba demo in London on Sat 16th May, to promote with our members, and to provide support with transport to stand with the Palestine movement against the far right
