Motion Passed: Donate to Bristol Transformed Festival 2027

Passed at committee meeting on 14/04/2026

Proposed by: Alex Tissandier

Seconded by: Mia Smith

The branch notes:

Bristol Transformed is a festival of politics, culture and ideas running since 2019, with an annual attendance of over 600 people. They host a range of workshops, panels and talks: particularly focusing on making politics and economics accessible to all, and on education in practical skills relevant to trade union and community organising.

Each year, many trade unions have made donations to support the festival and help it to stay affordable for working people.

In return for any donation, the festival would offer us:

  • A number of free tickets to distribute to our union members
  • To display any of our union’s banners around the festival venue, alongside information about the union and what we’ve achieved in recent years
  • A table for our union to run a recruitment stall in the main venue, if we want it
  • All our members will also be welcome to attend the pre-festival training event on chairing meetings in an inclusive way (an important skill for all trade unionists to develop)

The festival places great importance on widening accessibility. Every venue will be wheelchair accessible, and free childcare will be available for the children of attendees.

This branch believes:

Education on organising skills, economics, and politics all help to build a better informed and more effective trade union movement. Our members, and the wider movement, would benefit from taking part in this kind of education.

This branch resolves to:

  • Donate £100 to Bristol Transformed and email finance@bristoltransformed.co.uk to confirm this
  • Inform our members about the festival via e-mail or social media
  • Distribute our free tickets to interested members
  • Work with Bristol Transformed to arrange a stall to promote the union at the festival
